The Question of the Day

What purpose does bedrest serve? I mean, really, you just sit there all day. i have a headache from just sitting here. It doesn't matter if I lie down or sit up. And I am bored to death. I could work on school stuff or read a book but I have a headache. I can only handle so many blogs in one day. I get ideas that I start researching but then I find I have too bad of a headache to think. OR, I start researching one idea only to find myself chasing something else. It's hard being scattered brained. Ok, so that is what I am deeply comtemplating today. Maybe you can give me good reasons for bedrest. :)

  1. Karen,

Bedrest causes you to slow down, stop, and perhaps see life from a different perspective. It can make you trust God more than you thought you could. It makes you stop taking everything for granted, and gives you compassion for others because of your own suffering or trial. It's knowing that whatever happens it will be what is good for you- you are a child of God and this is His plan for you.

I don't know how far along you are but you should go see a maternal/fetal specialist and get an ultrasound to see what's going on. You may have had a placental abruption, in which case it is important to remain on bedrest so the abruption can heal and doesn't end up bleeding more and causing misscarriage. I had a placental abruption within the first 8 weeks of gestation and went on to deliver a healthy baby at 36 weeks. I was on bedrest for 6 months, and it was worth the precious life of my son, Colin. I have 4 children now. If you have any questions you may e-mail me at:

I hope this is helpful to you. There are many things that can be done now to lessen the risks of miscarriage or preterm delivery such as Progesterone, Heparin injections, bedrest, and Vit. D, Folic Acid, Fish Oil among other things.

  2. Praying for you friend as you rest physically and rest in the sovereignty of God.

  3. My 51 day bedrest in the hospital made me STOP. I am an "on the go" type person, never stopping to smell the roses, take a breath of fresh air or realize my life as a daughter of the Father. HE stopped my in my tracks to realize that he is in control ALL THE TIME, not little ol' me. HE puts us on bedrest for a reason, yours may be different than mine. I found and committed myself to God while praying for Payton's life at 26 weeks.
